The Musician : Mycho has always played and produced music using the best instruments and equipment available to him. What this currently entails is a dynamic live performance that combines live seamless mixing of eclectic and rare vinyl records with digital sources of originally produced tracks, exclusive remixes, samples, and loops, pulling from an extensive personal collection, backed by a home production and recording studio. Growing up this meant recording into boom boxes, prototype drum machines, and the best Fischer-Price had to offer in the way of plastic turntables and cassette recorders and effects.

In 2004 Mycho moved from Massachusetts to California and co-founded the Fringe Arts and Music Collective (www.fringesf.com) of San Francisco (and Black Rock City). successfully producing events combing high quality live bands, instrumentalist, dj performances, and multimedia art within the live music, dance club, underground, and Burningman communities. Several original tracks by Mycho Cocoa are slated to be released this year on Sleevin Records (SF/UK).

Recently this energetic DJ has performed at events and venues such as Symbiosis, Get Freaky!, Raindance Chinese New Year, all over Burningman (including at their headquarters in SF for the organizers and founder), SF Decompression, 1015, Mighty, and Anon Salon. He’s also performed alongside countless top talent including Bassnectar, The Freestylers, The Stanton Warriors, The Glitch Mob, DJIcey, Kan’Nal, BLVD, and Hamsa Lila.

The Music : This music is played to make you want to dance and enable you to do so. With your body is the best way to listen to it, although Mycho insists it is for your “mind, booty, and soul. Genre-wise, if we must, we may call out this fusion of styles as invoking the flavors of dubstep, glitch hop, Latin house, and tribal breakbeat, with a little bit o’ swing.

It’s been described as both healing as well as containing the energy and understanding that makes you want to dance because you really feel it, even if you’re tired, rather than insisting you dance. Always a dynamic mix to fit the current mood and shape the next, Mycho Cocoa has been known to weave sonic tapestries that reach out and into everyone on the dancefloor. Dedicated to the dancers, Mycho is ready to give his all to let the people let loose.
